Why GAMESPEED?

People ask quite often "what is game speed"? Well I wanted people to know that there is a significant difference between testing times, training times and controlled environment workouts and the actual game that they play. I was once caught in the trap of thinking that the better my 40 time was and the more reps I could produce bench pressing would lead me to be a better football player. I remember running the 40 against our top cornerback in college and beating him by several steps. I had him outweighed by 40lbs. and was much stronger. But when we were on the field he had much better cover and bump and run skills than I did. This troubled me because I worked hard all summer to be the best. Sports (and life) are made up of multiple start and stop situations. You have to able to react to the obstacle in front of you whether it is an opposing player or simply attempting to break your fall from slipping on the ice. We all require speed. And there is much more to the training than just running through agility ladders and cone drills.
